There are four different hair types and 3 different textures. Whats hair porosity? Why does that matter? Knowing your hair type and texture are so important when choosing a technique of styling and the overall style… but the most important and the most overlooked factor is porosity. Hair porosity is the amount of moisture the hair holds. To determine the porosity of the hair we often use a strand test. Using clean tools brush or comb gather a loose strand from the utensil and place it in a clear glass of water wait about 2-5 minutes for the hair to settle. Once the time pass look at the position of the strand. If it sinks it’s low porosity which means the hair needs assistance with locking in moisture if it floats in the middle that means the porosity is normal and if it floats to the top it’s high. With high porosity it’s best to use aids to lock in moisture sulfate free and hydrating conditioner. When rinsing out the conditioner be mindful of the water temperature. We where taught to cleanse with hot and seal with cold but I have learned that it’s based off of hair porosity… Tell me what temperature should the water be if we wanted to seal in moisture on high porosity hair? I will give one clue: hot water opens the cuticle and cold water seals. Share your answer in the comment box below
